Welcome to my working site where you see the anatomy of a book being prepared. This is my second novel and follows the Murder in Maspalomas book published in July 2017.
My name is Mark Rice and I have written several books of short stories before I tackled the somewhat intimidating "novel" where a manuscript is c100,000 words +. I'm truthfully a writer of great brevity and the thought of completing a book of this scale was truly intimidating. However, when I got into the story and began the writing, the pages of words just poured out of me. When I did run dry I'd go for a 6 k run and when I arrived back I'd have a load of new ideas to move the story on with!
I'm now looking at completing Murders on the SS Azara and finding a publisher for the book. I feel I've got something fresh to offer in the approach I'm taking.
Firstly, the story is told solely from the murderers perspective.
Secondly, the murderer is rather like you and me and not some outlandish inherently evil person. Thirdly the book takes you on the cruise of a lifetime visiting 17 ports across the world so I combine a travel log with a murderer loose on a 70,000-ton ship carrying 3,000 souls, passengers and crew.
Fourthly, when you are thousands of miles out at sea you have nowhere to hide.
So my opening question you, dear reader is would you read a book where you are reading alongside the murderer, living his experiences, his excitement, fears, his encounters as he cuts loose during a cruise?
If you are interested in reading a story of this type please leave a comment and subscribe to this site for an email update as the book develops and becomes available online or in a shop near you.
